Kopp Glass Discusses “The Effects of UV Glass Optics on UV LED Arrays” at the RadTech UV + EB Technology Expo and Conference

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (May 2018)— Kopp Glass will feature their moldable UV transmitting glass compositions at the upcoming RadTech UV+EB Technology Expo and Conference in Rosemont, IL. Unlike fused silica and quartz, Kopp’s UV glass has unique material properties that enable it to be molded into complex and contoured shapes that allow you to control the collimation of the light beam and the irradiance pattern at the measurement surface. Justine Galbraith PhD, Glass Engineer, will present “The Effects of UV Glass Optics on UV LED Arrays” on Tuesday, May 8 at 2:45 PM during the UV LED I session. Justine will discuss the efficiency of two common optic types: Rod and TIR optics.

“For many UV applications, especially those at UVA wavelengths, using a molded glass optic such as a TIR lens in place of a fused silica window or rod can significantly improve the efficiency and peak irradiance of the light fixture,” says Dr. Galbraith.
